Question
How do I remove the Simplified Scripting component
from existing scripts in IBM Rational Functional Tester?
Cause
Simplified
Scriptingmode is enabled by default in IBM Rational Functional
Tester 8.1 and above. You may want to disable this functionality for
reasons such as
- You want to maximize
performance. Simplified Scripting is much more resource intensive than
Java or .NET scripting, especially during recording. Depending upon your
hardware resources and your application under test, using simplified
scripting mode may lead to long pauses during recording.
- You want to do advanced editing of your scripts using Java or
Rational Functional Tester APIs without relying on theInsert
Java Code snippet and Insert Java methodfeatures of Simplified
Scripting mode.
- You are upgrading from a pre-8.1 release of Rational Functional
Tester and want to work in the same Java perspective that you are
familiar with from previous versions.
Simplified Scripting mode can be toggled on and off at the setting shown
below.
Window > Preferences > Functional Test >
Simplified Scripting > Enable Simplified ScriptingHowever,
the
Enable Simplified Scriptingpreference only
affects newly created scripts. Existing scripts that were created with
Simplified Scripting mode enabled will still have the Simplified
Scripting view and functionality, as denoted by the blue script. icon and
also by the Script/Java tabs in the script. editor.
This technote describes how to convert existing scripts created using
Simplified Scripting mode into standard Rational Functional Tester Java
scripts.
Answer
Follow the

Project.
- In Windows Explorer, navigate to the
project folder (the Location you made note of in step 2). Delete*.rftss.
- In Functional Tester, clickFile
> Connect to a Functional Test Project.
- Click Browse and navigate to the
project folder (the Location you made note of in step 2. ClickOKand
then clickFinish.
- Verify that your scripts no longer
have the Simplified Scripting view and functionality, as denoted by the
yellow script. icon, and by the lack of Script/Java tabs at the bottom of
the script. editor.

BACKING UP FILES:
Always make new database back-ups of your schema repository and users
databases prior to making schema changes and performing database
upgrades. Failure to create back-up copies can limit your ability to
recover from a an upgrade failure, design change issues or other
unforeseen failures.
