My journey to linux started. It's somewhat like a bird leaving its net for sky for the first time, with a lot of uncertainty.
I decided to use VMware, and the installation was not easy, especially with the vmware tool. First I had to a install kernel-smp and kernel-smp-devel, but I picked kernel and kernel-devel by mistake. Then I found vmware setup tool from the installation cd and installed it manually, rather than click on the vmware command as described in some internet articles. Then I found the vmware tool setup has a bug. To fix it, edit the driver.c in source file and reinstall vmware tool.
I left the 1st stop and continued 4 my 2nd stop. The ip configuration is surely different from windows. I learnt to provide a dns, which is not needed in windows. Firefox is also different from Maxthon.
Leaving the 2nd stop, I noticed that my usb disk could not be used directly under linux. After some configuration, or a mixture 0f experimentation on cmds, the usb disk could be mounted.
The 4th stop is samba. After some stumbles, Linux and windows could now connect to each other more easily, so the world is becoming flat.
I don't know where is the next stop I'm flying to in the linux world, neither what risks I will face. But I've learnt the importance of independence and toughness. Hope this can help me find the true freedom I'm searching for.
